Supernote is a counterfeit $100 bill so undetectable, it threatens to destroy the entire global economy. One United States Secret Service Special Agent crossed international borders from the Iguazu Jungle in Argentina and Paraguay, to casinos in Moscow, safe houses in Beirut and the back alleys of Phnom Penh to unravel the distribution routes of the DPRK, HEZBOLLAH, PLO, PFLP and IRA all supporting their lethal operations with Supernote funds.
Special Agent Ross Garrett’s investigation culminates in arresting one of the world’s most wanted fugitives and dismantles the infamous supernote criminal enterprise; unbeknownst to a world oblivious to just how close it otherwise came to global financial chaos.
Jungle surveillance near Kona, Hawaii
“Hey, did you see anything or anybody moving over there?” Suspect Marc Ackermann pointed in the direction of Agent Kelly who was hidden under jungle foliage.
“No man, looks all quiet to me.” Kaarim answered.
Ackermann was insistent. “I’m pretty sure I saw something through the window. Let’s take a closer look.”
The agents slowly drew their SIG Sauers from their holsters as the two syspects quietly and carefully advanced toward them, each carrying a revolver in one hand and swatting mosquitoes with the other. Ross, Kelly and Lily dug their backs further into the jungle floor and almost disappeared into the lush green and brown surroundings. Each of them held their 9mm close to their stomach, safety off and ready to shoot. Nagi was in direct line with Kelly and in a few more seconds, Ackermann would be on top of Agent Ross Garrett. Neither Nagi nor Ackermann had a clue their lives were seconds away from ending.
Macau
The ferry rocked and swayed as it banged against the pilings guiding it into the terminal. Hong Kong businessmen and blue-collar workers rushed past casino advertisements hanging from the terminal walls. Russian hookers crowded the gangway competing for customers seeking a day of lust as well as luck.
Ross was in no hurry. He took a handkerchief from his back pocket and dusted off his shoes while he waited for the flood of humanity to subside before he made his way to the exit. He disembarked after a long look at the waterfront dock, seaching for anyone or anything suspicious. Was anyone loitering? Were there workers or construction crews appearing to be repairing pipe or an electrical box? If so, were they actually Triads surveilling tourists and determining their business in Macau? Did they also know Supernotes were going to be picked up by a Secret Service agent? Were there “slicky-boys” (gangsters) surveilling him while he made the pick-up, so they could make their move? $250,000 in perfect-looking Supernotes was a lot of money in Macau, which created a lot of risk.
Cyprus Embassy
For the next five weeks Ross tried to get the Cyprus CIA Chief of Staff, COS, to confirm some of the leads he and Lily Caldwell had dug up. But, the Chief wouldn’t confirm anything. He thwarted every effort they made and treated them like they were the enemy.
Ross was tired of playing his games and finally had it out with him in his office, without Lily. He wanted this to be a conversation strictly between him and the Chief.
“Listen you lying son of a bitch, you know exactly what I am talking about. I’m done with flights under radar from here to Beirut to develop information you aready have and aren’t telling me.”
“I’m telling you, Ross, I don’t have files on the Supernote!”
Ross leaned in close over the Chief’s desk, getting eyeball to eyeball with him and whispered, “Chief, I can see your pupils are dilated and your hands are shaking. I can hear your irregular breathing and see your pulse racing in your jugular. I can also see that that straight nose you look down has never been broken. Maybe it’s time for that to change.” He waited for the COS to process that idea.
The Chief had worked with men like Ross before, and he knew the 6’4″, 230 pound former professional football player in front of him did not give a rat’s ass about being written up for insubordination, much less assault and battery. Ross was done waiting, with a quiet danger in his voice, he spoke to the COS one last time. “I want that damn file and don’t tell me you don’t have one. I’ll be back in thirty minutes, and it better be here!”
